Pokot Mission---- The Transition----->

We are excited to give you an update on what we have been working on for the last few months!
We have been in the process of transitioning to another name (VUNA International) and a new website! In the next few days, we will unveil our new mission, proposal, and plans for our next mission trip in 2016.

Our focus will not change, but we will be growing and reaching out to even more communities in the African continent in the next few years.

We thank GOD for how HE has led us in the past, and how HE has helped us to grow and collaborate with other ministries and interested persons in the present. We are looking forward to a bright future. Stay tuned....

Keep On Praying

We want to say thank you to all of you who have donated, prayed and have shared in our journey to this year's mission trip.

As we are just a few days away from the start, I want to encourage you all to join us in prayer:

  • Pray for the people of Pokot;
  • Pray for the missionaries and safe travels;
  • Pray for the leaders in the community;
  • Pray for our funds and donations to multiply.

That's a lot of praying! But we can never pray enough. May the rest of your summer be filled with prayer and praises. Asante sana!

By Love, Serve

Galatians 5:13   For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

A Christian is a follower of Christ, and HE has given us all an example of how to love and serve each other. It is almost time for us to head back to Pokot as July is just around the corner. We continue to solicit your donations and your prayers for the mission. If you would like to donate to the cause, please donate by going to our Rally page at https://rally.org/pokotmission.

We frequently ask for your prayers as well. We believe in the power of prayer and united prayer, so we ask you to join us as we pray for the mission and the people of Pokot.

We thank you in advance for your prayers, petitions and donations. If you or a friend would like to join us on the mission, we are still accepting applicants. Register today!

Self Denial For The Cause of Christ

"Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine" Prov. 3:9-10

Some give of their abundance, yet feel no lack. They do not practice self-denial for the cause of Christ. They give liberally and heartily, but they still have all that heart can wish. God regards it. The action and motive are strictly marked by Him, and they will not lose their reward. But those who have less means must not excuse themselves because they cannot do as much as some others. Do what you can. Deny yourself of some article you can do without, and sacrifice for the cause of God. Like the poor widow, cast in your two mites. You will actually give more than all those who give of their abundance; and you will know how sweet it is to deny self, to give to the needy, to sacrifice for the truth, and to lay up treasure in heaven.

Give what you can now, and as you cooperate with Christ, your hand will open to impart still more. And God will refill your hand, that the treasure of truth may be taken to many souls. He will give to you that you may give to others.
~ Excerpts from 'Our High Calling' Devotional

There is still time to donate to the mission. Won't you deny yourself for the cause of Christ today and give towards the mission trip? Donate by going to our Rally page at Rally.org.

Every Member A Medical Missionary

We are just a few months away from our 2nd annual trip to Pokot!

We are excited about all those who have signed up to join us in Pokot, as well as those who have donated and have prayed for us and the mission.

Although these trips are based around providing free medical care to the community, some of you may be intimidated to apply because you do not work in this field, but you are still called! We are still in need of willing souls for the mission.

In the Book, Testimonies for the church, volume 7, page 62, it says "We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work." Did you read that? It is time for every member to be involved in medical missionary work, so you are called to join the medical team.

Whether you have had formal medical missionary training, or if you would just like to support those who have, we are eagerly waiting for your application. The LORD is calling you to serve, won't you follow The Great Physician's call? Register today!

Disciples and Apostles For Christ

All apostles are disciples, but not all disciples are apostles.

Have you ever asked why Christ Jesus had only 12 apostles? Let's look at both to understand more about being followers of Jesus.

A disciple is one who is instructed; taught and learned. Because of this, everyone who calls himself/herself a Christian is a follower of Christ, desiring to be taught by Him.
An apostle is also a disciple, but he/she is sent on a special assignment. Even Jesus Himself is called an Apostle (see Hebrews 3:1 "Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus"). We know Christ was 'sent' to earth for a very special mission. Because he was sent, he chose 12 men and sent them into all the world to do the same.

Whether The LORD is calling you to be a general disciple or an apostle for a particular mission, He needs you to go for Him and preach, teach and baptize.

Consider joining us in Pokot this summer. Sign up today!

Response about the Garissa University Tragedy

On April 2nd, gunmen from the Al-Shabaab group raided the Garissa University in Kenya, killing 142 students and injuring over 70 others. Al-Shabaab is a militant group based in Somalia and was said to have given warnings to the community that they would be attacking a major university in the future.

There were some that were gunned-down indiscriminately, but there was also a deliberate attack on Christians as well. If you want to read more on this story, you can click on this BBC World News link. For those of contemplating attending, or have already registered, we assure you that we are still moving forward in regards to the mission. Both  Nairobi and our base in Pokot are far removed from Garissa, and there are no threats poised to either location. Our missionaries' safety and protection are our # 1 concern, and we would not venture forward if there was a chance of danger to any of you. If you have any question or concern that you would like to voice, please email us here.

We are reminded that we are in a cosmic conflict between the forces of good and evil, and our enemy is intensifying his attacks upon God's children. In John 10:10, we are told that   "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy", but praise God, Christ Jesus came that we might "...have life, and that they might have it more abundantly".

Please press on in faith with us. May you join us in praying for the families who lost loved ones in this heart-breaking tragedy, and continue praying for the mission on a whole.

Honor The LORD

“Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9

This scripture teaches that God, as the Giver of all our benefits, has a claim upon them all; that His claim should be our first consideration; and that a special blessing will attend all who honor this claim. Counsels of Stewardship, chpt 12

There is a blessing in returning to The LORD what HE has blessed us with. As we return God's tithes and offerings, we are also reminded to share with those who are in need. Many may be quick to assume the only way we can help others is monetarily, but there are other ways to be a blessing:
  • Item Donations: For those of us blessed with an abundance of clothing and shoes, we will also be accepting warm-climate clothing and shoes (especially children sizes)
  • Prayers/Supplications: If we truly understood the true power of prayer, we would pray more often! Please continue to pray that The LORD blesses this ministry and the mission trip.
  • Time: We are still accepting applicants for the mission. If you would like to spend your time in ministry this summer, we will gladly welcome you! Prayerfully consider joining us.
These are just a few ways you can help us out. If you have any material donation you would like us to bring to Pokot, please email us at pokotmission@gmail.com, or if you would prefer to donate to the mission, please go to https://rally.org/pokotmission. May you continue to abide in The LORD today and be blessed!

There Is A Work To Be Done

If we indeed have the truth for these last days, it must be carried to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. Ere long the living and the dead are to be judged according to the deeds done in the body, and the law of God is the standard by which they are to be tested. Then they must now be warned; God’s holy law must be vindicated, and held up before them as a mirror. To accomplish this work, means is needed. I know that times are hard, money is not plenty; but the truth must be spread, and money to spread it must be placed in the treasury. Historical Sketches of Foreign Missions, pg 291.5

There is a work to be done that is languishing. Our funds are not our own to do whatever we want with it. As The LORD has blessed us to acquire money, we should, with cheerful hearts, seeks ways to donate and give to the gospel work.

We are still looking for missionaries to join us in Pokot in July. If you cannot join us, please consider donating here and help us spread the word!

The Combined Work of A Physician and Minister

Christ gave a perfect representation of true godliness by combining the work of a physician and a minister, ministering to the needs of both body and soul, healing physical disease, and then speaking words that brought peace to the troubled heart.—Counsels on Health, 528.

Join us in the work of combining medical aid with spiritual aid. Register today!

A Work To Be Done

Happy New Year, and Welcome back to The Pokot Mission Project!

Our work and passion continues for the people in Pokot. Read was Ellen G. White wrote in the book, A Call To Medical Evangelism:

"The work of gathering in the needy, the oppressed, the suffering, the destitute, is the very work which every church that believes the truth for this time should long since have been doing. We are to show the tender sympathy of the Samaritan, ... feeding the hungry, bringing the poor that are cast out to our homes, gathering from God every day grace and strength that will enable us to reach to the very depths of human misery and help those who cannot possibly help themselves. In doing this work we have a favorable opportunity to set forth Christ the Crucified one."

Our next mission trip will be in July, 2015. Please visit our Mission Trip 2015 page for more information. We hope you can join us this year to help in alleviating the pain of others.
