Disciples and Apostles For Christ

All apostles are disciples, but not all disciples are apostles.

Have you ever asked why Christ Jesus had only 12 apostles? Let's look at both to understand more about being followers of Jesus.

A disciple is one who is instructed; taught and learned. Because of this, everyone who calls himself/herself a Christian is a follower of Christ, desiring to be taught by Him.
An apostle is also a disciple, but he/she is sent on a special assignment. Even Jesus Himself is called an Apostle (see Hebrews 3:1 "Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus"). We know Christ was 'sent' to earth for a very special mission. Because he was sent, he chose 12 men and sent them into all the world to do the same.

Whether The LORD is calling you to be a general disciple or an apostle for a particular mission, He needs you to go for Him and preach, teach and baptize.

Response about the Garissa University Tragedy

On April 2nd, gunmen from the Al-Shabaab group raided the Garissa University in Kenya, killing 142 students and injuring over 70 others. Al-Shabaab is a militant group based in Somalia and was said to have given warnings to the community that they would be attacking a major university in the future.

There were some that were gunned-down indiscriminately, but there was also a deliberate attack on Christians as well. If you want to read more on this story, you can click on this BBC World News link. For those of contemplating attending, or have already registered, we assure you that we are still moving forward in regards to the mission. Both  Nairobi and our base in Pokot are far removed from Garissa, and there are no threats poised to either location. Our missionaries' safety and protection are our # 1 concern, and we would not venture forward if there was a chance of danger to any of you. If you have any question or concern that you would like to voice, please email us here.

We are reminded that we are in a cosmic conflict between the forces of good and evil, and our enemy is intensifying his attacks upon God's children. In John 10:10, we are told that   "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy", but praise God, Christ Jesus came that we might "...have life, and that they might have it more abundantly".

Please press on in faith with us. May you join us in praying for the families who lost loved ones in this heart-breaking tragedy, and continue praying for the mission on a whole.

Honor The LORD

“Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9

This scripture teaches that God, as the Giver of all our benefits, has a claim upon them all; that His claim should be our first consideration; and that a special blessing will attend all who honor this claim. Counsels of Stewardship, chpt 12

There is a blessing in returning to The LORD what HE has blessed us with. As we return God's tithes and offerings, we are also reminded to share with those who are in need. Many may be quick to assume the only way we can help others is monetarily, but there are other ways to be a blessing:
  • Item Donations: For those of us blessed with an abundance of clothing and shoes, we will also be accepting warm-climate clothing and shoes (especially children sizes)
  • Prayers/Supplications: If we truly understood the true power of prayer, we would pray more often! Please continue to pray that The LORD blesses this ministry and the mission trip.
  • Time: We are still accepting applicants for the mission. If you would like to spend your time in ministry this summer, we will gladly welcome you! Prayerfully consider joining us.
These are just a few ways you can help us out. If you have any material donation you would like us to bring to Pokot, please email us at pokotmission@gmail.com, or if you would prefer to donate to the mission, please go to https://rally.org/pokotmission. May you continue to abide in The LORD today and be blessed!
